Topological Defects in SUSY
نویسنده
چکیده
Topological defects are general consequences of almost all symmetry breaking processes. They arise naturally when a system goes through a phase transition from a symmetric phase to a phase in which the symmetry is broken. The formation and the evolution of cosmic topological defects in the early (or late) Universe has many direct and observable consequences that may allow us to constrain possible models of physics at high energy scales. In this paper, we discuss the formation, stability, and evolution of topological defects arising from standard field theory and in supersymmetric field theories. Then, we review how cosmological observations constrain the various theories.

Constraining SUSY GUTs and Inflation with Cosmology
In the framework of Supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories (SUSY GUTs), the universe undergoes a cascade of symmetry breakings, during which topological defects can be formed. We address the question of the probability of cosmic string formation after a phase of hybrid inflation within a large number of models of SUSY GUTs in agreement with particle and cosmological data. We show that cosmic str...
متن کاملVortex Solutions in Two-higgs-doublet Systems
We analyze the existence of string-like defects in a two-Higgs-doublet system having SU(2)×U(1)Y ×U(1)Y ′ as gauge group. We are able to show that, when certain relations among the parameters hold, these configurations satisfy a set of first order differential equations (Bogomol’nyi equations) and their energy is proportional to their topological charge. New interest in the study of string-like...
متن کاملSUSY QuantumHall Effect on Non-Anti-Commutative Geometry
We review the recent developments of the SUSY quantum Hall effect [hep-th/0409230, hep-th/0411137, hep-th/0503162, hep-th/0606007, arXiv:0705.4527]. We introduce a SUSY formulation of the quantum Hall effects on supermanifolds. On each of supersphere and superplane, we investigate SUSY Landau problem and explicitly construct SUSY extensions of the Laughlin wavefunction and topological excitatio...
متن کاملStudy of Stone-wales Defect on Elastic Properties of Single-layer Graphene Sheets by an Atomistic based Finite Element Model
In this paper, an atomistic based finite element model is developed to investigate the influence of topological defects on mechanical properties of graphene. The general in-plane stiffness matrix of the hexagonal network structure of graphene is found. Effective elastic modulus of a carbon ring is determined from the equivalence of molecular potential energy related to stretch and angular defor...
متن کاملExactly solved BPS wall and winding number in N = 1 Supergravity
A BPS exact wall solution is found in N = 1 supergravity in four dimensions. The model uses chiral scalar field with a periodic superpotential admitting winding numbers. Maintaining the periodicity in supergravity requires a gravitational correction to superpotential which allows the exact solution. By introducing boundary cosmological constants, we construct non-BPS multi-wall solutions for wh...
